I doubt you’ll cover all your Christmas expenses with these but we’ll give it a go.
A tricky race in which I’m between two and have settled on the least exposed in Casse Tete for the Moore yard which is in good form as are a few trainers in this race. The ex-French Casse Tete won easily on his final outing last season and could be decent. The other I was looking at was the dogged Dream Bolt who is not quite so exciting to watch but seems a fairly consistent type.
Casse Tete 9/1
A good race this but I will overlook the big names in favour of Sam Spinner who really impressed me at Haydock, going with great enthusiasm when hammering 15 rivals. Following improving horses has been a solid strategy for me and I’ll stick with Sam until he’s beaten.
Sam Spinner 8/1
Another improver here whom I won’t desert is Go Conquer. He won at Ascot last time although this will be more of a test in the softer ground. But I think he could make up into a Ryanair contender and believe he will go very close here. I’ll have a saver on Gold Present who should be better suited by this right handed track than when winning at Newbury last time. Nico De Boinville will have learned something that day as Gold Present hung when Nico picked up his whip. Only when he put the stick down did the horse run straight and give his all to win it very close home. He might just be a good horse in the making too.
Go Conquer 15/2 Gold Present 15/2
Elgin is my third improver of the day. He’s won two good races already this season the first of them at this track in early November. That race has produced 6 winners and 4 placed horses. He then won the Greatwood at Cheltenham. He must carry 11.12 in this and I think he might just about pull it off.
Zalvados is still seeking his first hurdling win but he ran really well at Cheltenham last time to finish 4th of 19 at 25/1 and I’m hoping he can win his first one over the sticks.
The grey Lake View Lad enjoyed the big step up in trip last time and should be very happy on this heavy going; he has a typical deep ground action. I fear Three Faces West, but will go with the grey.
Lake View Lad 6/1
Enjoy the racing and don’t bet more than you can afford to lose with a smile.
