Saturday’s TV Tips

I’m not going to write reams this week, just a few lines where appropriate.

1.50 Haydock

I like an improver here, Diamond Fort who’s around 7/1

2.05 Ascot

Royal Regatta loves this track and, at around 11/1, makes most appeal

2.25 Haydock

I’ve always liked Silsol and he’s back after a layoff of more than a year. He has top weight but Nicholls has a 7lb claimer up and this horse, who goes well in the deep ground he’ll get tomorrow, should not be 25/1. He’s won first time out in his last 3 seasons and should give you a good run for your money.

2.40 Ascot

Defi Du Seuil could be anything. I got him wrong last season thinking his jumping would not hold up but he improved as the season progressed. There’s no value in him at around 1/1 but I cannot oppose him.

3.00 Haydock

I’m sitting this one out. I wish they’d retired Cue Card after his last fall. I think something is amiss with him as in two of his last three runs he’s not so much fallen as failed to take off and crashed into the belly of the fence at chest height. If he stands up he could win, but even if he does I won’t change my mind. His next crash, whenever it happens, could be his last.

Also, anything Bristol De Mai runs in is tough to call. A couple of seasons back he ran up a hat-trick (two of them were when odds on) but since then has not won two in a row. Still, this is the place where he has run like a superstar in similar ground and although I won’t back him, I won’t oppose him either.  So, I am out, as the saying goes, but it’s my job to offer you a tip so, if you must have a small bet, go with Tea For Two

3.15 Ascot

A tricky race where a tentative vote goes to Quite By Chance at around 4/1

3.35 Haydock

Harry Fry once Described Sir Ivan as a ‘work in progress’. He meant slow progress because after a 12-race losing run he seems to be rewarding patience and has won his last two. The handicapper believed he improved last time by 8lbs and a horse at the beginning of an improvement arc is usually worth following until the zenith is reached. So, in the hope that said zenith was not at Uttoxeter last time, he’s the last selection.

None of the above is made with solid confidence so, as ever, don’t bet too much. Have a good day’s racing.

Joe
