Cheltenham Festival 2018

59/1 Charbel for Champion Hurdle worth a fiver

I’ve had a wee bet on Charbel at 60 (Betfair) to win the 2018 Champion Hurdle. The two mile chase division is red hot and if he wins the Elite today I think he might stay hurdling. That Supreme for the ages, which, in the 365 days following, threw up 26 winners from 62 runs including eight Grade 1s, three Grade 2s and three Grade 1s (every horse bar one won a race) has already delivered one Champion Hurdler in Buveur D’air who finished four lengths ahead of fifth placed Charbel in that 2016 Supreme Novices Hurdle.

As always, bear in mind the caveat that antepost is a risky business and Charbel could return to chasing. Speculative, this, but worth a small bet.  Here’s the Betfair Exchange page.  If you don’t have a Betfair account, 50/1 is available here at Bet365 (none of these is an affiliate link).

Good luck.

Joe

Post-race edit:

Should think he’ll be 150/1 after that today in the Elite. Big market drifter, never travelling, beaten a long way out. Too bad a run to be true and I’ll give him another chance on good ground if he stays over hurdles.
